SPECIAL REPORT - Commission on the Funding of Care & Support – what’s on your wish list?
Health Secretary Andrew Lansley last month named Andrew Dilnot as the chair of a commission tasked with investigating how this country can
revolutionise the funding of social care in order to deal with ageing demographics, a dementia tsunami and a general populace who believe that the state
owes them a degree of support in their old age (CCMN July 2010).
Having watched the exiting Labour government tiptoe around the topic for many
years, only to have their White Paper on adult social care funding all but ignored by the incoming cabinet, hopes are high that this latest move might
actually push the discussion towards a solution rather than yet further circular discussions which do nothing other than paint a bleak picture of our
ageing futures.
CCMN spoke to four social care names – with allegiances to very different parts of the system - to see what would be on their wish list if
they were sat on the knee of a coalition government santa.
