The UK has the highest ‘quality of death’ in the world according to an index produced by the Economist Intelligence Unit.
Ranking countries according to their provision of end of life care, the Lien Foundation commissioned table has put the UK at the top of a list of 40 countries thanks to its network of hospices and statutory involvement in specialist support services. Indicators such as public awareness, training availability, access to pain relief and doctor-patient transparency informed the rankings which reported a top five of: The UK; Australia; New Zealand; Ireland and Belgium.
