Legal experts Eversheds discuss the prospects for enterprising staff to set up shop on their own terms
Following the successful completion of the first wave of Right to Requests (R2R), the second wave of applications has now been announced by Paul Burstow, the care services minister. The Right to Request initiative, set up under the previous Labour regime, was always likely to survive the introduction of a new Government as it sits squarely within David Cameron's view of a "Big Society".
Much of the media attention around the “Big Society” has focussed on the call to arms for volunteers. Some commentators have been critical of this and have doubted the likelihood of the general public giving up their time for no financial reward. There is, however, much more to the agenda which, perhaps, is reflective of the mood of the time. This other strand is the move towards a stronger Third Sector of which social enterprises and value driven business are a key component.
